I had an awesome time at "Bowties & Brims" with Jack & Jill (@jackandjillinc) Arundel Bay Area Chapter. The Derby Day themed event at the Maryland Jockey Club (@marylandjockeyclub) in Laurel was a great chance to network, dance, support local Black businesses and of course watch horse racing. S/o to my Local Bestie Talisha for working so hard to make this fundraiser a success.

🎉I just wrapped teaching my last class of the academic year at @smpagwu . This semester was challenging and heavy, but I'm so proud of the progress from my students and myself. Alrighty, I'll be grading and recapping the semester in the coming week. But for now I want to take a moment to thank my students for allowing me to share my #JournoLife with them. Hopefully I'll get some general assignment or political journalists out of this batch. -Prof. Mayo✌🏾

Career Day newscast fun with the amazing students at @baltcityschools Liberty Elementary. S/o to @Principal_FREE, Kim Jones and the educators for providing this day for the students. These talented 4th graders wrote stories about positive topics around Baltimore City. Then we recorded their “Liberty TV” reports using the green screen.

This activity allowed them to play the roles of reporter, videographer and director. It’s an easy way to try to give as many kids as possible a chance to participate in the exercise, while also showing them the various careers you can have if you like writing, a/v productions and current events.

I had the best tiny ambassador helping me carry gear around the school. I really love sharing a little of what we do in my #JournoLife with kids. Who knows, they might just pop up on your TV news teams in the future. Stay tuned.

It’s National Infertility Awareness Week, and it’s crucial that we honor the women whose lives have been affected by childbirth complications and those whose voices have not been heard. Tonight we honored Krystal Anderson, Jessica Pettway and the many others lost as a result of the maternal mortality crisis.

I typically play #LoFi music or Beyonce before my @smpagwu classes and during their 15min break. It's a way to help them mentally prepare for heavy topics and recalibrate after stressing them out with lectures and breaking news activities. Friday I thought I'd be the cool professor and play the new Taylor Swift "The Tortured Poets Department." These little people let me know they are NOT Swifties. Some even asked to please go back to Beyonce. Welp back to #CowboyCarter we go. 🤣🤣

#FlashbackFriday to my myomectomy three years ago on April 19, 2021. Fibroids plaugued my life for so many years until I FINALLY took steps in 2021 to get them removed. It was surreal going from the journalist reporting on women's reproductive health, to the patient on the surgery table. I'm so glad I took this step and took back my life.

💡#FunFact... I was online while producing for BET News. I had to open the DC bureau around 7a.m. and prepare the morning assignment meetings by 9a.m. Many nights after our set in Baltimore, I'd drive to DC and just sleep on the damn floor of the bureau to make sure I was awake on time to grab and go through the physical newspapers looking for national Black stories. Oh to be 23 and able to operate on 5hrs of sleep. My bureau chief was a soror and she sniffed out what I was doing (and took pity on my sleepy behind). So never let it be said that I'm not serious about this #JournoLife.

#CareerDay fun with students at Howard County Public School System (@hocoschools ) Cradlerock Elementary School. I shared my #JournoLife adventures and video production work with them. This included my work on the book trailer and social media campaign for "Black Panther: Tales of Wakanda" with editor Jesse J. Holland ( @authorjessejholland ) . I also led the kids through a report on "The One and Only Ivan" by Katherine Applegate.

"Quiet on the Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" is an enraging watch😡. Growing up watching Nickelodeon and Disney Channel and wanting so badly to star on one of these shows, I have no words. Child labor laws, exploitation, racist tropes, sexual abuse... I can't 😡. Kids deserve better protection than this mess. #quietonset
