*** BIOGRAPHY: Nicki Mayo: On Air, Online and On Time ***

Multimedia Journalist Nicki Mayo returns to Baltimore after covering hyperlocal community news in Anne Arundel County for Aol.com. She served as the Local Editor for Crofton Patch covering Crofton and Gambrills, Maryland.
Nicki helped launch YNN Buffalo, a 24hour Time Warner Cable news station, in 2009. There she spent two years covering Western New York local and New York State politics, including the 2010 gubernatorial race.
Before Buffalo, Nicki headed to the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in the Tri-Cities (TN/VA) where she covered news on a multimedia platform. The News Channel 11 Morning Reporter and Tricities.com Content Coordinator developed stories for Media General’s WJHL-TV, The Bristol Herald Courier and Tricities.com. Before heading to the Volunteer State, Nicki shined in the Sunshine State at SNN News 6 in Sarasota, FL as a Reporter and Producer. The convergence market also gave her a chance to write for the Sarasota Herald Tribune (a New York Times newspaper).
Nicki began her journalistic career in Central New York reporting for National Public Radio at WAER-FM while attending Syracuse University. A devoted Orangewoman, she earned dual-degrees in Communications and African American Studies while minoring in Spanish.
The Baltimore City native returned home to “Charm City” as an intern for WMAR-TV ABC2 and an associate producer for WJZ-TV 13 (CBS). Mayo soon headed to the nation’s capitol and former internship BET News and Public Affairs. Here she produced segments for BET Nightly News, BET Tonight with Tavis Smiley, Ed Gordon, and Jacque Reid as well as Lead Story with Cheryl Martin. The Marylander stayed close to home reporting for CTV 76 in “gorgeous” Prince George’s County. Within one year Nicki produced award winning Black History and Hispanic Heritage month public service announcements.
Mayo received numerous honors over the years. East Tennessee’s “Fellowship Today” honored Nicki with a 2009 “Distinguished African American Professional” candidate award. Sarasota Healthy Start Coalition named Nicki “2007 Journalist of the Year” for her investigative report into the alarming Fetal Mortality rate among African American women in the 34234 zip code. Mayo also won a 2006 Videographer award for her report “Rolling in the Dough; Uptown Bakery comes to Prince George’s.”
Nicki has also worked for WTTG FOX5 in Washington, D.C. and as an English teacher for Prince George’s County Schools. Nicki is a member of National Association of Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
